About Nicole Marchant | UK Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About Me

Hello, I’m Nicole. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, and I offer online and telephone therapy to people across the UK.

My own experience of counselling and a lifelong curiosity about who we are and how we become ourselves led me to become a therapist. I have always believed that conversation can inspire growth and transformation. On my journey, I found that being a counsellor lets me make a real difference, not just by understanding others but by helping them create meaningful change in their lives.

I help people with many different challenges, especially anxiety, depression, bereavement, ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions, and chronic illness. I have personal experience with each of these, which has shaped both my life and how I work as a therapist. This background helps me bring real empathy and understanding to our sessions.

In my practice, I focus on being my true self so clients feel comfortable doing the same. I care about bringing positive energy to each session and value connection, compassion, and the courage to face challenges together. Therapy can be tough at times, but it should always feel real and collaborative.

My Qualifications & Training

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and have a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy training in Person-Centred Therapy. I have also completed foundation-level training in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). This means I can use elements of the approach in my work when they are helpful.

I have worked with many clients who have ADHD and chronic illness, drawing on my professional training as well as my own personal experience.

I stay up to date in my field by taking part in regular supervision and ongoing learning. This helps me give the best support possible.

My Therapeutic Approach

Each person is different, and so is every therapeutic relationship. I do not start sessions with a set plan or ready-made answers. My goal is to learn what is most important to you and, together, find the best and most respectful ways to work.

Person-Centred Foundation

You are at the centre of our work together. I will listen to you, make sure our space feels safe and welcoming, and trust that you know your own life best. Person-centred therapy is based on the idea that people can find their own answers and grow when they have the right support. I aim to offer that support by being warm, empathetic, and understanding.

Integrative Elements: REBT

I mainly use a person-centred approach, but I also use Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) if I think it could help you.

This might mean:

  • Use practical techniques to help you notice and manage unhelpful thought patterns.

  • Look at how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected.

  • Gently question beliefs or assumptions that might be keeping you stuck.

  • If it feels helpful, try structured exercises or strategies between sessions.

I shape my approach to fit your needs. Some people prefer a space focused on exploring and understanding their feelings, while others like using more structured tools and techniques. Together, we’ll find what works best for you.

How I Choose to Work

I believe that therapy should be collaborative, not prescriptive. That means:

  • You set the pace. We’ll move at a speed that feels right for you.

  • You choose the focus. We’ll explore what matters to you, not what I think should matter.

  • I bring authenticity. I’ll be genuine, warm, and honest with you.

  • I offer challenge when needed. Sometimes growth means facing difficult truths, and I’ll support you through that with care and compassion.

Therapy isn’t always easy, but it should always feel safe. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, valued, and supported as you work through whatever has brought you here.

My Values

Authenticity
I believe therapy is most effective when both the therapist and client can be themselves. I show up as my true self in our sessions, and I encourage you to do the same. You don’t have to put on a perfect front; you are welcome just as you are.

Connection
Our work centres on the therapeutic relationship. When we build a real and trusting connection, meaningful change can happen.

Compassion
I treat every client with empathy and kindness, even when we talk about tough or painful experiences. You always deserve care and respect.

Challenge
Sometimes, growing means facing hard truths or trying things that feel unfamiliar. When I challenge you, it will be to help you, and I’ll always do it with kindness and at a pace that works for you.

Flexibility
Each person’s journey is unique, so I adjust my approach to fit your needs. What helps one person might not help another, and that’s completely fine.

Lived Experience
I have personal experience with ADHD and chronic illness, which helps me understand what my clients are going through. This allows me to offer not only professional knowledge, but also real empathy and insight into the challenges these conditions create.

Having ADHD and a chronic illness has shaped who I am, how I view the world, and how I approach my work as a therapist. These experiences have helped me understand the challenges of living with invisible conditions, how they affect mental health and identity, and why it matters to feel seen and understood.

If you’re living with ADHD, neurodivergence, or chronic illness, I understand some of what you’re going through. I’m here to help you find your own way forward.
